Description
As a part of the minority you retain your dignity by remembering your people’s history and culture. But can you manage to do that while also adopting and complying with the strict rules of the society you live in?
Keywords: Memory – Identity – Social drama
The game is set in an alternate version of the 19th century, recognizable but a dark mirror. A new priestess of Alfather, the god of the Majority, comes to the provincial town of Bulwark, and life starts to get more difficult for the Minority. Not only are they met with demands and humiliations, they must also struggle to hold on to who they are, as opposed to the Majority’s view of them. Does the prejudice get under their skin? And can they maintain friendships with Majority members? It is up to the players.
The Gates of Remembrance is a mnemotechnic exercise that the Minority use to store their tradition. The players actually learn the exercise, and outcomes in the game are decided by the ability of the players to remember. The PLAYER CHARACTERS will be crushed by demands and stereotypes unless the PLAYERS dig deep into their minds. You don’t have to be a memory master to play – bad outcomes make for good stories too.
About the author:
Troels has written a lot of roleplaying games, and they tend to be about identity and conflict. In some, there’s lots of juicy action, while others – such as this one – are more quiet.
Stikord: Hukommelse – Identitet – Socialt drama

Nominated, Bedste Scenarie
From beginning till end this scenario is thorough and ambitious while the design opens the gates to a strong and nuanced experience. As a participant you feel the heavy responsibility of saving the history of The Folk and the utter lack of easy solutions, when family and friendships collide with the High Priestess of the Allfather in a cultural division they never sought out.
Nominated, Bedste Fortælling
In a strange world a familiar tale takes place. A tale of what happens, when a group is called out as the scapegoats of society. An impressing universe with creation myths and precepts of the good life provide the backdrop for a nuanced story of the fight to keep your identity when the majority puts you under pressure.
Nominated, Bedste Virkemidler
With a keen focus on engaging the players in all elements of the game, the mnemonic techniques, scene types, and supporting characters, support an experience where The Folk are put under an unreasonable pressure. Whether they manage to preserve their proud culture is unknown, but we all leave the game with the culture of The Folk firmly planted in memories about Tarts of Temperance and Waffles of Wisdom.
