Beskrivelse

Isaiah 40: The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field.

It is August 1965. Yesterday, the residents of Millville in Grant County, Wisconsin (pop. 164) woke to discover a mysterious barrier around their village. Through trial and error, they found that the barrier allows no life to pass through it—only inanimate objects. Today, at lunchtime, Senator Wilson and representatives of the federal government meet with the mayor of Millville in a large tent erected across the barrier.

The barrier itself is invisible, but stretchy. Trying to walk through it is like trying to walk while being pulled back by elastic bands. Eventually, the force is too great and throws you back.

Millville folk

Morris: Retired carpet sales rep and Millville’s head council member. Early 60s.
Constable Martin: A police constable. Early 30s.
Carter: A real-estate/insurance business owner. Early 30s.
Sherwood: A gadget manufacturer. Late 50s.
Preston: Local reporter and council member. Late 30s.
Flanagan: Retired school principal and council member. Late 60s.

Out-of-towners

Senator Wilson: Senator for Wisconsin. Late 50s.
General Billings: US army general. Late 40s.
Shaw: Aide to the senator. Mid 30s.
Dr Blake: Government scientist. Early 50s.
Captain Yip: USAF officer. Mid 30s.
Agent Franz: FBI agent. Late 40s.
Jamie Flanagan: Chicago doctor. Early 30s.

All Flesh is Grass is set some years after The Roswell Incident (and uses two of the same characters). It is not necessary to have played in The Roswell Incident to play All Flesh is Grass (although I hope some of you do!).

Note - one player will play two characters.

Content Warnings

Here are some of my concepts and assumptions for All Flesh is Grass.

Equivalent cinema rating: U or PG.

Genre and tone: Dramatic, rather than an action movie or horror. Serious, but not solemn.

PvP: Some. The characters are pre-written and some of their personal agendas will come into conflict.

Secrets: Some characters have secrets, and the game uses contingency envelopes to reveal knowledge at key moments (to avoid excessive foreshadowing).

Powers/abilities: None.

Body horror and gore: Mild.

Verisimilitude: None—theatre of the mind only. (Although appropriate costuming welcome!)

Sexuality/sexual violence: None.

Characters: Pre-written with background consisting of past events and information about other characters, along with their objectives. Players will choose their own genders, pronouns and first names. They will play those characters as they choose. Character sheets are typically two pages long (600-800 words or so).

Puzzles: No explicit puzzles, but the characters are trying to work out what the barrier is and what they should do about it.
