From the Scenario
The most popular television program in the world, The Jolly Good Baking Show, has come to Brindlewood Bay to find the town’s very best baker. A number of qualifying rounds have been held, and our Murder Mavens are among the bakers to make it through to the final, televised portion of the show, where they will meet the charming presenters and have their confections judged by the notoriously strict Paul and Jane.
A Game of Cozy Murder and Darkness
Brindlewood Bay is a roleplaying game about a group of elderly women—members of the local Murder Mavens mystery book club—who frequently find themselves investigating (and solving!) real-life murder mysteries. They become increasingly aware that there are supernatural forces that connect the cases they are working on and, in particular, a cult dedicated to the dark, monstrous aspect of the goddess Persephone will come to vex them.
The game is directly inspired by the television show Murder, She Wrote, but also takes inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, “cozy” crime dramas, and American TV shows from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s.
What you will need
The Keeper will bring everything you will need to play but feel free to bring pens, pencils, a bunch of d6s, a good sense of humor, and a willingness to roleplay! There will be a safety briefing and an accommodation check in before the start of the game.
About the system
Brindlewood Bay uses the PbtA basic game mechanic (2d6 + ability) but also has some cool structural and narrative elements which forms the ‘Carved from Brindlewood Bay’ framework which games like The Between and Public Access are based upon
About the designer
Jason Cordova is a game designer (The Between, Public Access, Trophy), and ENnie awarding winning podcaster. Jason is also the founder and head of publishing at The Gauntlet, a TTRPG online community that celebrates roleplaying games.
About the GM
Fiona K.T. Howat is a London-based voice-over artist, improviser, and gamemaster who decided people need to try out more RPG systems and play more games. So, she decided to start up a podcast based on it - What Am I Rolling?: A Twice Monthly RPG oneshot podcast!
She also co-hosts The DM’s Book Club, a weekly podcast about reading about some Dungeons and Dragons and discuss how it might be included in role-playing campaigns!
