The old tin-mining village of Hartsmere in Devonshire, England, lies on the edge of a rugged and dangerous moor. Members of an archaeological team have arrived on the estate of Lord Hartsmere to examine the remains of an Iron Age village. But they have been kept awake over several nights by the constant baying of Lord Hartsmere’s hunting hounds, and their dig activities interrupted by a police search for an escaped convict from the nearby prison. When a body is discovered on the dig site, it is just the beginning of a most disturbing series of events…
