Description

Styles of Play: Freeform larp, Streaming/Online Face to Face

Freeform remote LARP where players play dwarves in a fantasy setting who live on the surface among non-dwarves and are making a pilgrimage to a religious site in the underground dwarven realms. Shared rituals, including ones with physical components, for characters with a diversity of backgrounds/experiences within a minority culture.

You are a dwarf in a world of humans (and other non-dwarves). Maybe your family has lived on the surface for longer than anyone you know has been alive, or maybe you’re the first generation here. You might cling to dwarven religious beliefs and traditions or think it’s all nonsense. But you all have one thing in common: you’re going back underground, making a pilgrimage to a site sacred to dwarves. What are you seeking, and how will the journey change you?

"Pilgrimage to the Center of the Earth" is a freeform peripatetic LARP where players play dwarves in a fantasy setting who live on the surface among non-dwarves and are making a pilgrimage to a religious site in the underground dwarven realms. With the other pilgrims that you've met along your journey, who come from a diversity of backgrounds/experiences within the minority culture that you all share as well as diverse relationships to that culture and religion, you will participate in rituals together and maybe(?) find what you're looking for.

Note: This game, as written, includes a section where characters eat together as they travel. If COVID safety considerations make this inadvisable, the scene will be rewritten or omitted.

This was originally written as a remote virtual LARP; we’ll try to do it by moving from place to place!

COVID POLICY: The official policy for this game is that masks are required except when eating. To the greatest extent permitted by weather and other conditions, I’ll try to run parts of this game outside, and people can also unmask there. It is almost certainly not possible for the entire game to be run outside, and players should expect to mask for indoor parts.

Participant communications
Characters are created at game time. Players will benefit from reading the game (about 5 pages) in advance; it will be distributed before con.

Content warnings
No warnable content beyond that already referenced in the blurb (ie. potentially complicated relationships with religion, family, and minority status). As part of the premise of the game, all characters belong to a fictional minority culture which, broadly speaking, practices a fictional minority religion, and are going on a pilgrimage associated with that religion. Since players create their own characters, they may make their own decisions about the level of belief/observance, assimilation or non-assimilation, family drama, etc. that they want to be part of their own backstory.
