Description
SPQR
The power of the Republic stretches throughout much of known space. Its mighty Legions guard its borders and stand poised to conquor further worlds. But on Roma, the Republic's capital, the picture is of corruption and decay. While the rich Senators and large landowners prosper the poorer citizens suffer. Perhaps bread and circuses will appease them. Or perhaps the weak rule of the Consuls has had its day and the need is for a single, strong leader. An Emperor...
SPQR is a Freeform for 24 people set in the last days of the Republic (\*). Characters will be influential citizens of Roma, from Consuls, Senators and Rich landowners (or those who control them) down to Generals, Merchants, Procurers, Priests, Priestesses and even some highly resourceful slaves. It's a Space Opera setting, but technology will be irrelevant (see the note below).
The game has a wargaming element for those who like wargaming, but this can be avoided by those who don't like it. There will also be Orgies, Chariot Races and Gladiatorial Combat (all, by the way, strictly PG-13).
More details about the game, including a map, rules and a full cast list are available on my web site.
(\*) Note: This game was going to be set in ancient Rome, but I've changed to to space for three reasons: i) I am largely ignorant of Roman history, ii) I wanted full sexual equality and iii) I thought costuming would be more fun this way (for those who like to dress up - it's not compulsory). However, the game will be technologically analogous to Ancient Rome and completely free of nasty Sci Fi gubbins.
