The old tin-mining village of Hartsmere in Devonshire, England, lies on the edge of a rugged and dangerous moor. Members of an archaeological team have arrived on the estate Lord Hartsmere to examine the remains of an iron-age village. But they have been kept awake over several nights by the constant baying of Lord Hartsmere’s hunting hounds, and their dig activities interrupted by a police search for an escaped convict from the nearby prison. When a body is discovered on the dig site, it is just the beginning of a most disturbing series of events…
