Beskrivelse

At a time when his contemporaries were making drama that entertained and made audiences feel, Bertolt Brecht took his theatre in a radical direction by making theatre that taught and made them think. Notably, he interfered with suspension of disbelief by “messing with the meta”, ensuring his audience would stay emotionally detached from the play. Additionally, rather than making sympathetic, complex characters, his characters were often simple abstract representations, emphasizing their social function over their individuality and helping the audience to judge them and reflect on their actions. His influence can be seen in a variety of modern media, from the award winning musical Pippin to postmodern film techniques to comic book characters talking directly to the reader. This LARP plays with Brecht's ideas in a two major ways. Characters are defined by their relationships to each other, not their backstory or individuality. Before game start, players break into groups of 3. Each member of the group draws a role (parent, co-worker, lover, etc.) Group members connect themselves to each other in whatever way they deem appropriate. After the relationships are established, players flesh out story on top of the relationship. Once this is complete, the groups are broken up and randomly reformed and the process repeats. After 2-3 of these sessions, the plot is deemed to be fully written and game starts. Second, immersion in the LARP will be intentionally broken to allow for critical reflection of the game's progression and to be true to Brecht's vision of dramatic theory. GMs will occasionally pause game to focus the players on a significant interpersonal development, provide feedback, debate the merits of a characters' actions, or whatever strikes the GM's fancy. If you are interested in learning more about the game, the materials are available here: http://whenourdestiniesmeet.wordpress.com/ When our Destinies Meet is the system name. Weavers at the Loom of Fate is what we call our runs of the game.)
