The Peoples' Democracy of Freedonia remains the world's greatest superpower. Every six years the country holds a presidential election the results of which reverberate around the globe. What's good for Freedonia is good for the everyone, and when Freedonia sneezes the world catches cold.

The first term of President Charlie Sackett is drawing to a close and the major parties are revving up for a contentious campaign. Freedonia is a democracy and there are numerous parties vying for the presidency. Back in the early days following the Freedonian revolution these matters were settled with civil debate and mutual respect. Those days are long gone.

In _The Election_ you'll be playing the part of a candidate, adviser, pundit, news reporter, spin doctor, business leader, concerned citizen, or another person interested in, if not directly involved in the campaign itself. There will be multiple candidates running for election by swaying public opinion and getting out the votes. Your job (or hobby as the case may be) is to be sure your guy gets elected.

_The Election_ is a comical game of campaign absurdity. While it may or may not make the point that our elections are absurd in many ways, the game is not intended to advance or detract from any actual existing political party. Political platforms developed for or in game will be exaggerated for comedic purposes. The political parties in game will not map directly to any existing political party although some actual present-day issues will likely be included. _It should be emphasized that this is not a game to seriously explore any such issues, it is a game to get your guy elected no matter what._ If you are looking for a serious exploration of political issues you should look elsewhere. If you are looking to mock them, this game is for you.
