Description
What if someone told you that you were a god? Would you call them the crazy one, or you for believing them?
The year is 1922. Alcohol is illegal in the United States, but that only impacts those who cannot rise above such a challenges. As an individual blessed with unique talents, you are part of the high society. So it is no surprise when you are invited to a fancy party by a reclusive millionaire.
It is a surprise when that millionaire announces that you, and all of the other guests, are mortal incarnations of the gods, stripped of your divinity but not your immortality, and that you have lived countless lives spun back out into the mortal realm. And that tonight, you will join your fellow gods in pursuit of what has been stolen.
Great Gatsby meets American Gods in a mystery in which you must decide who you are, who your friends are, and most importantly - who you want to be?
Light on mechanics, high on mystery:
Centuries ago, one of the many gods of the various pantheons worshipped by mortals betrayed their brethren. A curse was cast upon all of the gods, cutting them off from their divine spark and erasing their memories of their true identities. Finally, after having lived countless lives in the tedium of mortality, one of those gods has discerned the truth, and devised a way to restore that divinity. It will require all of them to rediscover who they truly are and then find a way to combine their efforts to break the curse. And some of them may find motivations to leave things quite as they are.
You will play a character of high society, exemplary in your field, gathered with an invitation to a party. There will be others there that you have crossed paths with in your life, for good or for bad. Shortly after the start of the party, the nature and intent of the gathering will be revealed. Over the course of the next few hours, you will need to entangle the web that connects you to the other guests. Were you lovers? Siblings? Rivals?
There will small scale narrative mechanics that generate moments of inspiration, flashes of past memories clouded by time, that give indications of what well known divine entity each character is. Only once confident in your true nature can you use it to restore the gods. And as the plot twists, this will prove to be a less clear goal for some.
