Description
The game is set in the 1890s when the calm of a British autumn was shattered by the landing of cylinders from beyond the heavens. Despite valiant, sacrificial but ultimately futile heroism from Her Majesty's armed forces, the Martians have broken the Thames Defence Line and Her Majesty has 'retired' to Osbourne House on the Isle of Wight. The Heat Rays have left London aflame on the horizon and reports of massacres of the civilians caught by the invaders has caused those who can to flee to the coast. The last steamer not already overloaded waits at the quay and the tickets are worth more than their weight in gold.
The characters are set in the ahistorical world of Aelbion and will be a mixture of real-life and fictional 'ordinary' Victorians, this is not the League of Extraordinary Gentleman. It is also not a game of solutions or triumph, it is more about what do you do when your world ends, what would you do for safety and on what ground do you choose to make your final stand.
The game is, in many ways, a 'Be Your Own GM' game. Characters should be 2-3 pages long but, if you feel that you should be able to have other abilities, just speak to a GM.
Ideally, this will be a costumes game but, as the characters are refugees, a reasonable attempt will suffice. I mean, quite frankly, not jeans and no t- shirts would cover the costuming minimum. It does involve a number of deeply unpleasant Victorian themes including child abandonment, gaslighting, murder, suicide and sexual menace. If you are concerned that any of these might prove to be a trigger, it might be advisable to talk to the GM first
