The Great St Mary's Staff Meeting

RPG system: LARP
Participants: 4 players

Description

It's never quiet at St. Mary’s Institute of Historical Research but life has slowed down to a gentle hum. And it is that time again. Max has to submit the plans for the next mission to Dr Bairstow. Unfortunately everyone and their goat (Max told Markham to return the goat to R&D) has given her a suggestion. With great trepidation she calls a staff meeting to work out where they should go and what they should do.

A 1 hour larp about historians who investigate major historical events in contemporary time (for god's sake don't call it time travel), tea, explosions and complaints from the Tech, Wardrobe and R&D departments.

Lovingly based on The Chronicles of St. Mary’s novels and short stories by Jodi Taylor who I have borrowed these unintentional disaster-magnets from. To get the best out of this larp you should have read at least the first three books.

During the game you will spend your time discussing (arguing) about when in history you want to visit and drinking a lot of tea. All of the characters have canonical favourite places in history they want to visit but you should not feel constrained by this!

Dramatis Thingummy

Madeleine Maxwell: Prefers Max., Historian. Chief Training Officer, Chief Operations Officer, Director at various times. Engaging, impatient, self- deprecating, with a murky past and a precarious future
Tim Peterson: Max's loyal best friend. Historian, Chief Training Officer, Chief Operations Officer, Deputy Director at various times
Markham: Second in command of the security section. Hides his light under a bushel. Suspiciously well read. Small, grubby and disaster-prone. Reputedly indestructible - which is just as well.
David Sands: Historian and teller of really bad knock knock jokes

The tone of the game is the light and fluffy bickering side of St Mary's. Having read the first three St Mary's books will help you get the most out of the game but a brief briefing sheet about St Mary's will be provided. There are some dark personal events in backstory and in some St Mary's books, they won't appear in the larp. If you haven't read the books and want to read them before the larp please please be aware that some terrible things happen in back story and there are extensive content warnings that don't happen because it's a book.
