Description

Its origins are deeply, deeply classified. Some call it alien, or magical, or religious, but if you have the right clearance to be here, it’s simply The Box.

It’s either the most dangerous piece of technology you’ve ever seen, or the most exciting.

Twice a year, the international oversight group allows a few select volunteers to step into the box. You’ve been invited to the meeting. If you’re lucky, careful, and clever, it will answer every question you could imagine.

If you’re unlucky, things will not go so well.

Either way, you’ll come out a different person than you went in. A better person… hopefully.

Just remember, the thing inside the box wants to escape. Quite badly, in fact. So please, keep in mind the number one rule: while the entity inside is talking, DON’T OPEN THE BOX.

Don’t open the box is an experimental, psychological horror game about communicating with a hostile alien presence, inspired by Annihilation, the SCP, and based in part off of Eliezer Yudkowsky’s AI box experiment (with certain areas off limit, and a very strict “no basilisking” rule). It will cover fairly dark subject matter; see CWs below.

Content warnings
This game includes themes of law enforcement and loss of autonomy.

Some characters will meet unsatisfying or tragic endings, and other characters may be responsible for those endings.

Additional character-specific CWs will include self-harm, loss of a loved one, terminal illness, and ritualistic murder

The game has some physical restrictions (participants will take turns crawling inside of a dark box), but this is solely for the purpose of personal immersion, and exceptions can certainly be made
