Description
Do you remember “the talk”? You know, the one about the “birds and the bees”? Maybe you never got one. Maybe your parents handed you a book and that was it. Or maybe you got an overly detailed discussion that left you mortified with embarrassment. The Sleepover gives you a chance to explore that experience from the perspective of the parents and the teens.
The Sleepover is a larp about teenagers, sexuality, and how we learn about and share information about sex and sexuality. How does a parent’s experience with sex, relationships, and sexuality affect the “talk” with their child? What do pre-teens and adolescents learn and share with each other as they swap notes with their peers? The Sleepover takes place on the night of a mixed gender sleepover, which a group of teens will attend. Before the sleepover, each teen will receive “the talk” from their parent(s). Players will play both a parent and a teenager navigating this awkward and important conversation.
Next there’s the sleepover itself. Players will take on the roles of the teenagers and compare notes, discuss their own perspectives on sexuality, and attempt to use that knowledge as they play games that encourage experimenting with intimacy and sex such as Spin the Bottle, Truth or Dare, and 7 Minutes in Heaven. All players will use Ars Amandi or a similar technique to simulate intimacy.
This scenario recognizes, explores, and celebrates queer sexuality. The level of frankness is determined by the players; queerness will be actively explored and positively, affirmingly discussed.
