Beskrivning
A megagame for 30-50 people.
Welcome to the megagame “Pirates of Salt, Sea and Sky”! A megagame about pirates and empires, looking for freedom and power. Be a pirate, raid the seas, upgrade both ship and crew, and seize your dreams. Or be part of a vast empire trying to turn this land into a profit for the homeland!
The game features:
Sea battles
Treasure seeking
Visiting ports
Mystical powers
Negotiation, Diplomacy and betrayals
Sailing
The players were divided into teams of 3 (for pirate crews) or teams of 4 (for Empires.)
Pirate crews were looking for treasure, pludnering trade ships and heading into ports to buy supplies.
Empires engaged in wars with each other, capturing ports and sending resources between ports but also back home to their homeland.
Ship battles were a main feature where players sailed, shot and boarded the opponent using a system inspired by Man o' War from Games Workshop.
Ports were in a seperate room where resources where produced based on a production worker placement mini-game. When Pirates landed in a port they could trade, recruit more crew or get upgrades for their ship. There was also a roleplaying element where the players could come up with something they wanted to do in the town and do it.
Treasure hunts were similar to escape room games where pirates had to solve puzzles and perform challenges to get access to the valuable treasures and ancient artifacts.
The game also had a magic system where witches in different covvens worked together, or against each other, to create powerful spells that could help their team.
While the game featured some balancing issues in combat, with certain options being far superiour, the game was nevertheless an achievement in combining the freedom of roleplaying and boardgame mechanics to provide the pirate fantasy.
