Odyssey of Heroes er et kooperativt brætspil for 2-4 spillere, hvor heltene kæmper mod både indre og ydre kræfter for at fuldføre deres rejse. I løbet af spillet vil heltene forbedre deres evner, træffe svære beslutninger og kæmpe mod monstre fra den græske mytologi såsom satyrer, kæmper, harpyer og sirener.
Spillerne beslutter hvilken historie, de ønsker at spille og vælger hver især en helt med et unikt sæt af evner. De bladrer til første side og eventyret er i gang. Nogle sider udfordrer spillerne med dilemmaer eller gåder, der har afgørende betydning for historien, og hvor de i fællesskab må beslutte, hvordan de ønsker at fortsætte. Andre sider udfordrer spillerne til at kæmpe mod – og helst eliminere – fjender for at kunne fortsætte historien. Hver spiller vil desuden have deres egen personlige agenda, som de forsøger at opfylde.
Kampene er hurtige og taktiske. De er baseret på et 2D-system, hvor placering er afgørende, inspireret af PC-spil som Darkest Dungeon. Heltene bliver placeret på position 1-4 på den ene side af slagmarken og fjenderne på position 1-4 på den anden side. I initiativ-rækkefølge benytter helte og monstre nu deres evner baseret på deres placering. F.eks. er minotaurens “Cleave”-evne bedst fra position 1 og rammer de fjender, der står placeret i position 1-2.
Effekten af en evne bliver bestemt af tre faktorer: Evnens niveau, de kuber, der ruller ud af kubetårnet, samt hvordan evnen bliver forstærket. Gennem kampen vil helte og fjender kaste kuber i kubetårnet, når de anvender bestemte evner. De kuber der kommer ud, kan blive anvendt som skade eller til at forstærke brugen af evner i fremtiden afhængig af kubetypen. Forstærkningseffekter kan være simple, såsom at øge skaden, eller mere avancerede og radikalt forandre hvad en evne gør.
Efter en side er gennemført kan heltene blive belønnet og muligvis forbedre deres evner inden der bladres videre til næste side i deres historie.
Odyssey of Heroes is a cooperative roleplaying game for 2-4 players where the heroes struggle to overcome several challenges in order to complete their voyage. During the game the heroes will improve their skills, be faced with dilemmas, and encounter a myriad of ancient Greek foes such as satyrs, giants, harpies, and sirens.
The players first decide on an adventure book and everyone selects a hero, each with their own unique skill sets. When the players turn to the first page of the adventure the journey is on. Some pages present dilemmas or puzzles, where the players will choose between several options, that will affect the story. Other pages hold encounters, where the players need to defeat enemies in order to proceed. Moreover, each hero will have their own personal story, which the player seeks to fulfill.
The encounters are quick and tactical, and based on a 2D system where positioning is vital, inspired by PC games like Darkest Dungeon. Each hero is placed on hero-positions 1 to 4 and the foes are placed opposite on enemy-positions 1 to 4. Based on initiative, the hero or foe selects a skill that is playable from that position. E.g. the minotaur’s cleave skill can only be used from hero-position 1 and will deal damage to enemy-position 1 and 2.
The effect of a skill is influenced by three factors: The skill’s level, cubes that exit the cube tower and how the player decides to amplify the skill. Throughout the encounter, heroes and monsters will toss cubes into the cube tower when using skills. The cubes that come out can be used as damage or to amplify future skills depending on cube-type. Amplify effects can be as simple as adding extra damage, but can also more complex and radically chance what the skill can do.
After the dilemma or encounter is cleared, the players gain rewards and upgrade their skills, before turning to the next page of their adventure.

The game combines combats inspired by rpg-computer games, a roleplaying campaign experience and ‘choose your own adventure’ in true Sword and Sorcery style.
Odyssey of Heroes is nominated for succeeding with the narrative ambitions of a well written and epic adventure and the gradual teaching of the game, so that you quickly get to impressing the gods with heroic deeds.
