Året er 1720. Et sted i Danmark åbnes landets første anstalt, kun for de gale og afsindige, som ellers hærger landsbysamfundene. I skal udvikle anstalten ved at opfinde nye behandlingsformer og følge tidens strømninger. For at holde anstalten kørende helt frem til reformationen i 1850, må I holde øje med kassebeholdningen, jeres omdømme og samtidigt undgå at få for mange døde på anstaltens samvittighed.
Spillet er historisk korrekt i den udstrækning, at alle behandlingsformer, I udvikler, har fundet sted. Spillet holder en relativt historisk korrekt opbygning og præsenterer spillerne for mange af datidens historiske begivenheder. Det var sådan her, vi behandlede psykiske syge. Galskab (Eng. Madness) is a historical educational game about the morbid history of psychiatry from its birth in 1750 and a hundred years forward. The players are together managing a lunatic asylum and trying to keep both economy and reputation under control whilst avoiding unneccessary deaths. You frequently invent new treatment methods, such as bath with live eel, arsenic, and whipping by stinging nettle. Later in time some methods might be considered distasteful and you have to reorganise to avoid a bad reputation.
