In a pre-Christian Sweden a set of women and other non-men with spiritual connections to the Völvic magical traditions are visited in their village of Astfanginn by a crew of traumatized returning Vikings. Before the evening is over, the Völvas fall victim to a heinous crime.

To avenge themselves they commune with Aesir and Vaenir, with giants and dwarves, with the elvenkind of the underworld and with the spinners of fate themselves. As they dance naked through the darkened forest, the vengeance heeds their call.

They cannot undo what they have done. As vengeance lays waste to all, these humans who hate each other must join forces or perish as monsters and gods toy with their bodies and minds.
