Foromtale
The archipelago of Lazuli runs on midnight oil.
It mortars the city’s proudest spires. Lamps fueled with it glow in every window, burning impossibly long. The first astrolabe was crafted with intricate mechanical parts molded from midnight oil; and now that the trees are gone, ships are crafted from it. Without a steady stream of the rare substance, Lazuli would falter in the face of the sentient, hungry ocean clutching at its shores.
The ocean is not pleased, as of late. But it may be appeased through sacrifices, and sometimes it even grants gifts. The people of Lazuli have always communicated with the sea and understood its demands through the Seagiven, a person with the ability to hear the tide speak — but the last sacrifice the waves demanded was the Seagiven’s life. Now there is no one to replace her, and Lazuli may soon fall to the sea. On the anniversary of the Seagiven’s sacrifice, a group of people have gathered to find a new way forward for the archipelago.
Lazuli Bleeding is a litform LARP with a character-driven, play-to-lose mentality and almost no mechanics. This is a game about sacrifice; the one mechanic is that any point in the game, player characters may choose to sacrifice anything that belongs to them to the sea, whether it be a treasured possession, a long-cultivated skill, or an unwanted memory.
The game itself consists of freeform roleplay and will be no more than three hours long. Before we start, there will be an introduction as well as time reserved for players to meet briefly with other players they share character relationships with. After the game, we’ll debrief.
Content Warnings
This LARP unavoidably touches upon the following themes, filtered through a fantastical setting: environmental destruction, illness, self-sacrificial death.
