Rome. 795 A.D. Christmas Day. The Pope passed away last night.

The heads of the leading families of Rome traditionally gather at the end of the year to celebrate Christmas and plot in quiet corners together. Other devout pilgrims, including no few representatives of foreign powers, also manage to time their holy pilgrimages to Rome with this in mind. But this year the news of the Pope's sudden death has shocked the assemblage.

Pope Adrian was widely revered as a good and holy man. His alliances with foreign powers kept the city and Church safe but also created many enemies. There is no clear worthy successor at hand, but a new Pope must be elected by Rome quickly, lest the decision be wrested away by the long arm of Charlemagne or one of his powerful rivals. Can a new Pope be selected, or will negotiations be mired down by ecumenical dissent, family rivalries, personal venality, and international politics?

Heirs to the Throne is a historical LARP taking place in Rome, 795 AD. Characters and events are loosely based off of the events that happened during the papal election of that time. No magic, no combat. All politics. It does contain many adult themes centering around sex, religion, murder and torture. This game is fine for older teens but please only ages 16+.
