They are full of innocence, hope, fragile strength and, for a while, just the right size to fit between the thrashing cylinders and spinning cogs of the factory machines. Safe from the dangers of the streets and lavished with good dining, all in exchange for some light duties repairing and maintaining the pistons of productivity; fair trade and a great start in life. So Tomias Wunder would have you believe.

As one of the wealthiest and most urbane factory owners in all of Smoke Towers District, Tomias’ usual self-assurance and smooth-faced confidence is rattled and cracked. Someone is stealing his worklings. His concern for their welfare is only matched by the egregious effect on his productivity. He remains sure that these are not escapees, this is property theft.
