The Anthropophagy Society of the Pioneer Valley holds its annual New Member Induction Ceremony this evening. This is the Society's 273rd induction meeting, and Mrs. Eleanor Ironwood, three-term Chairwoman of the Society, will host at her lovely and secluded home on 27 acres in Orange, MA. She expects full attendance, and has hired the most skilled anthropophagist chefs, her own nephew Colin Ironwood, to cater. He is best known for his miso ginger marinated cutlets. He has a spectacular meal planned.

In the past seven years, despite some stellar credentials, not a single finalist has survived the final cut. The Society has grown more secretive, more mistrustful of non-inducted peers, and with good reason. The past Chairman of the Society met his demise in a shootout with local police eight years ago, and caused a major breach of the Society's shadowy anonymity. But Mrs. Ironwood knows how to plan a party, and knows how to keep secrets. No need to worry tonight about outsiders or turncoats.

At the induction meeting, each potential member presents his or her greatest achievement in or contribution to the Art and Science of Anthropophagy. Competition is stiffer than ever this year. The Society, whose origins date back to the 7th century BCE rarely have several qualified applicants. It is sure to be an exciting and gastronomically delightful evening. Mrs. Ironwood and her nephew look forward to meeting them. As is custom, any potential members deemed not eligible for membership will be drawn, quartered, and divided among the members.

Join the ranks of one of the most revered and feared secret societies. But mind your lingo. Anyone using the word “cannibal” this evening will face certain gustation and ingestion by one's peers.
